Second Sleep releases sophomore EP, “CROWS”
Second Sleep picks up right where they left with their debut effort “The Red EP” with a fully realized new 4-song EP, “Crows.” The Portland duo builds on their trademark sonic density with Bruce Reed’s enormous, cascading wall of washing guitars blanketed atop sludgy bass loops and T.J. Burke’s thunderous drums landing like fists on a shaky table on the verge of collapse. While the RED EP weaved elements of stoner metal swagger, Crows elevates Second Sleep’s noise rock art form to a higher plane with razor sharp, melodic precision.
The result is instrumental noise-rock packaged up in borderline shoe gaze and industrial sounds. Crows sounds like the instrumental love child of Young Widows and Bauhaus—treading a fine line between abrasive post-punk bombast and ethereal new wave gloom rock expression.
